Snape Quote of the Week #33

On Professor Sinistra's other side was the sallow-faced, hook-nosed, greasy-haired Potions Master, Snape--Harry's least favorite person at Hogwarts. Harry's loathing of Snape was only matched by Snape's hatred of him, a hatred which had, if possible, intensified last year, when Harry and helped Sirius escape right under Snape's overlarge nose--Snape and Sirius had been enemies since their own school days.
~Goblet of Fire, Ch. 12 "The Triwizard Tournament"

It's been a while since we had a short one... I doubt many people even remember this quote unless they've reread the books just as much as I have.

Every time I read this part, I get really mad at Harry. And if I'm alone while I read it, I actually talk to the page, and say "Shut up, Potter. He's my favorite person in Hogwarts!"

And when it first introduces Snape to the scene, as always, I do a little fangirl squee on the inside and sometimes kiss the page. If I'm alone. But, just OMR, Snape has some pretty dramatic intros. *Swoon*

Snape Video of the Week #33

It's Real For Us - The Prince's Tale

Lauren Fairweather (actually Maggiacomo now, because she got married to Matt of The Whomping Willows) released the music video for one of the other songs from her Prince's Tale album, so I thought I'd show you guys. There isn't really any Snape/Lily in the video, but the songs represents all of us Potterheads just as much as it did Snape and Lily, so I still like it.

Weekly Snape-ly Event #33

Once again, I couldn't find much news about either Snape or Alan Rickman, but this new video came out, as an update for Alan Rickman's upcoming Broadway Play, Seminar:

Oh God, that smile... He is so adorable.

Snape Picture of the Week #33

Sorry for all the heteroexual males that like my blog, but I just had to post this. There was more to the picture, but I didn't think it was appropriate to put on Blogger. And you know, part of what I like about this is that they didn't make Snape too muscular. Being a Potions Master, I don't think he'd been excessively muscley. And this is just the perfect balance between muscle and just being thin.

And it's pretty hot.

Snape Poem #5

Good and Evil by Bruce Alan Humphrey

The whisper turns into cannon shot in a crowd.

An enigmatic voice from the dark whispers in a naïve ear.
It speaks of riches and glory and power.
Riches to buy wealth.
Glory to buy rewards.
Power to buy friends.
But the whisper is a lie.

The whisper grows.
It passes from ear to ear turning it from the truth.
Eyes light up with hope for an easy life.
The whisper asks only to be listened to.
To be the leader for a life without strife.

Families sprout with the lie for a companion.
It lives with them, directing its biding.
Fathers and mothers teach the young.
The lie now has a foothold on the future.

Children listen to the whispers teachings, learning from them.
They teach their friends, who tell theirs, corrupting the innocent.
Race comes forth, perpetuating an idea.
Greed swells, filling the pockets with gold.
Hatred screams as it comes into its own.

The whisper turns into cannon shot in a crowd.
It races from ear to ear, instantly changing those who are good.
The crowd moves like one living mass.
Changing and morphing into evil.

Good speaks softly, but with unrelenting force.
It stands its ground against the evil, dreaming of harmony and the legacy of freedom.
Fathers and mothers teach the young.
Good speaks of peace, serenity, and the bravery of life.

Love and knowledge spring from that life.
Knowledge fathers dreams, dreams that build the future.
It pushes, driving the evil away from the naïve then cowers in the corner, where it waits once again.
The naïve are transformed and sent on the path of love once more.

I sincerely doubt that any of you already know if this poem, since it wasn't written by a famous poet, but I think it perfectly describes Snape's struggle with good and evil.

As a teenager, Snape was pushed (dragged into, more like) into the evil side, mostly because of Lily ending their friendship. All his life, Snape only wanted to belong, and the Death Eaters gave him a chance to do that, however stupid the decision was. I don't think he was ever truly evil, but that's what he was practically forced to choose.

Then, after realizing what he'd done, he wasn't pushed back to good, but actually chose it out of his own free will. He wanted to contribute to a future where there was no Voldemort; where the man that killed Lily was dead.

Fanfiction Friday #33

Holy crap, this week went by fast. But anyway, this week I give you a Hermione/Snape fic, and a rather famous one at that. You may have heard of it--it's called Pet Project.

With over 7000 reviews, I'd say it qualifies as one of the best Sevione fics ever. But it's rated M, so there's some sexual stuff down the road. Not too close to the beginning, though. There's 45 chapters so far, and they're pretty long chapters.

Both Hermione and Snape (as well as Ron and others) are excellently kept in character, and it really makes Snape and Hermione seem like a very possible couple. If you like this pairing, you'll love this fic. If you don't like the pairing, then maybe this'll be the fic that makes you change your mind.

Avada Kedavra!

You end up in Limbo, which is in the form of a computer screen, and you're greeted by this link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2290003/1/Pet_Project

Snape Quote of the Week #32

Professor Quirrell, in his absurd turban, was talking to a teacher with greasy black hair, a hooked nose, and sallow skin.
It happened very suddenly. The hook-nosed teacher looked past Quirrell's turban straight into Harry's eyes--and a sharp, hot pain shot across the scar on Harry's forehead.
"Ouch!" Harry clapped a hand to his head.
  "What is it?" asked Percy.
  "N-nothing."
The pain had gone as quickly as it had come. Harder to shake off was the feeling Harry had gotten from the teacher's look--a feeling that he didn't like Harry at all.
"Who's that teacher talking to Professor Quirrell?" he asked Percy.
"Oh, you know Quirrell already, do you? No wonder he's looking so nervous, that's Professor Snape. He teaches Potions, but he doesn't want to--everyone knows he's after Quirrell's job. Knows an awful lot about the Dark Arts, Snape."
Harry watched Snape for a while, but Snape didn't look at him again.
~Philosopher's Stone, Ch. 7 "The Sorting Hat"

Okay, so technically this is the first time we're introduced to Snape. He doesn't actually speak, but when you go back and re-read the series, you see a lot more meaning in it.

First, though, I'd like to know how Harry can tell that Snape's hair is greasy from across the Great Hall. For Harry to be close enough to see that Snape's hair is shiny (among other things that would tell you a person's hair is greasy) and deduce that it's also greasy, he'd have to be no less than twenty feet away. I don't think his seat at the Gryffindor table would be that close to the Staff Table.

Then, of course, this is the first time Snape's ever actually seen Harry in his years of teaching and waiting for the boy to come to Hogwarts so he could protect him. Snape's heart must have stopped when he saw how extraordinarily he looked like his father, and yet still had Lily's eyes. And right there, Snape looks at Harry's eyes, and he's probably struggling hard not to stare at them forever, because they're Lily's eyes, which he hasn't seen in at least thirteen years.

It sucks that Snape has to be portrayed as a potentially bad character so early on. :/
