Weekly Snape-ly Event #37

I couldn't find any real news about Snape or Alan Rickman, but that doesn't matter, because it's already set up for me--it's Halloween.

On this day, thirty years ago, Voldemort went to James and Lily Potter's house in Godric's Hollow with the intention to kill their son and thus eliminate the possibility of him being defeated. But, only a few weeks before, Severus Snape had begged Voldemort to spare Lily, and so the Dark Lord gave the woman a choice to step aside. She refused to, and willingly sacrificed herself for her son. The shield of love protected Harry and rebounded upon Lord Voldemort, rendering him almost nothing, less than the meanest ghost.

That night, Severus Snape lost the love of his life. He lost the will to live. But if it had not been for him, Lily would not have been given a second thought by Voldemort, and her sacrifice would not have been a willing one. And Harry would not have lived. There never would have been a Boy Who Lived, and Voldemort would have reigned forever.

The same night, ten years later, Severus did his best to find out what Quirrell was doing, and saw that he was trying to get the Sorcerer's Stone. He nearly had his leg ripped off in the process, and Harry was nearly killed by the troll that Quirrell had set lose.

The next year, the Chamber of Secrets was opened, thus beginning the series of stressful days of trying to protect the students of Hogwarts and yet, not being able to do a thing.

And the next year, the man that Snape loathed more than anything except James Potter--Sirius Black, broke into the castle and supposedly made an attempt on Potter's life, slashing up the Fat Lady's poster.

And the next, Harry's name came out of the Goblet of Fire. Severus knew at once that Potter's life was in danger, and that there was a traitor in their midst who had put the boy's name in. Once again, there was nothing he could do, though he knew that Voldemort must have something to do with it, for his Dark Mark had been twinging when it had not burned in years...

And all the rest were insignificant, but they were anniversaries of Lily's death all the same. If Severus were alive now, he'd be in an especially bitter and bad mood. He'd be mourning.

Snape Picture of the Week #37

I saw this on Tumblr and immediately started crying. This is just too damn sad, and I'm way too tired... Even though we can't see Snape's face in the last panel, his sadness is so beautifully conveyed by the rain, and his arm leaning on the window. It's so perfectly sad. If only he had told her...

Excuse me, I have to go bawl my eyes out again.

Fake Snape #2

Puppet Snape

I was going to use just a normal picture of Snape from Potter Puppet Pals, but I thought this one was better. Although, Ron should be saying "Right-o!"

Now, if you like Harry Potter, I can't even fathom how you could not have heard of Potter Puppet Pals, so I'm not going to explain it. Anyway, Puppet Snape is obviously much different than the real Snape, besides the fact that he's made of felt, and I will discuss this.

You know, the Snape puppet reminds me so much of Squidward. It's both because of the voice and the nose. And when you think about it, the 'bitterness' part of Snape is very much like Squidward, and it's also hilarious. The unibrow is more Squilliam, though. Lol.

Because of Puppet Snape, we now associate Snape with 'Bothering.' Personally, I'm torn between finding it hilarious and very sad. Although Ron and Harry bullying Snape is extremely off-canon, I know they'd love to do it in the books. I always get really sad when I think of Harry and Ron repeatedly pushing Snape into a wall until he loses consciousness, but I also like Bothering my friends. What can I say, it's fun.

Puppet Snape has also given us some of the best quotes ever:

"Do mine ears detect foul-mouthedness?"

"What is that mysterious ticking noise?"

"What is this RUMPUS?"

"Last night I fell asleep in the bathtub, and dreamt that I was riding a thestral through a storm, and each thunderclap resolved into their voices--'Bother, bother.' And then the scene changed, and I was at the Yule Ball with Lily Evans. I asked her to dance. She asked me to die."
----
And lastly, because of Puppet Snape, we have the song Like Snape, which is an AMAZING song.

Fanfiction Friday #37

Since I'm already nearly two days late with this, I admit I rushed in finding a fic, so it's not the best. And I'm tired, so I want to get this post finished quickly. So here's the facts, and not so much more:

It's a Snily one-shot, and is called I am Yours, Always. It's rated M for smut, and is a Romance/Angst. I usually don't like angst, but when paired with Romance, I actually think it's rather good.

Also, in my opinion, the plot doesn't entirely make sense, but it's a good fic if you're just looking for some smut in the shape of Snape/Lily.

I wish the Goblin King would bring me to the one-shot right now... Oh wait, wrong movie. Well, here's the link anyway: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7288048/1/I_am_Yours_Always

Snape Quote of the Week #36

"...cannot afford mistakes, Draco, because if you are expelled--"
"I didn't have anything to do with it, all right?"
I hope you are telling the truth, because it was both clumsy and foolish. Already you suspected of having a hand in it."
"Who suspects me?" said Malfoy angrily. "For the last time, I didn't do it, okay? That Bell girl must have an enemy that no one knows about--don't look at me like that! I know what you're doing, I'm not stupid, but it won't work--I can stop you!"
There was a pause and then Snape said quietly, "Ah... Aunt Bellatrix has been teaching you Occlumency, I see. What thoughts are you trying to conceal from your master, Draco?"
"I'm not trying to conceal anything form him, I just don't want you butting in!"
Harry pressed his ear still more closely against the keyhole.... What had happened to make Malfoy speak to Snape like this--Snape, toward whom he had always shown respect, even liking?
"So that is why you have been avoiding me this term? You have feared my interference? You realize that, had anybody else failed to come to my office when I had told them repeatedly to be there, Draco--"
"So put me in detention! Report me to Dumbledore!"
~Half-Blood Prince, Ch. 15 "The Unbreakable Vow"

That might not be the best place to stop, but I'm tired and don't feel like staying up much longer. Anyway, I think that, after the Spinner's End chapter, this is the hugest scene that really makes you decide your opinion on Snape's loyalty the first time reading the series. It either gave you even more of a concrete reason not to trust him, or made it even more obvious that he was loyal to Dumbledore.

And as for Draco: personally, I don't think Snape ever really liked him. I think Snape would have resented any contact with the Malfoys, since Lucius is the one that presumably suggested him to the Dark Lord, and was also still loyal to Voldemort even after his supposed death. Plus, Draco's a mini James Potter, minus the fact that Harry's the one who looks like James. So I think Snape merely acted as though he liked Draco, because otherwise, it would have been suspicious.

Snape Video of the Week #36

Potions Yesterday - Ministry of Magic

You know how, a while ago, I said that I had done all the Ministry of Magic songs? Well, I realized that I was wrong. Well, this song isn't technically about Snape, and it was actually originally by Draco and the Malfoys, but whatever.

In my opinion, MoM's version of the song is way better. Don't get me wrong, I love DatM and give them major props for writing the song, but their voices just don't work with it. MoM's screamo-ishness works really well, though. And I also love the heavy drum beats... I can't help but playing air-drums whenever I listen to this. It's just so badass.

Weekly Snape-ly Event #36

I suppose this isn't really news, but it is awesome, and it's the best I could do.

Anyway, the upcoming iPhone 4s has been advertising an app called Siri, which will be a voice assistant. Sort of like the voices on GPSes. IBT (International Business Times) released an article of the top 5 voices we'd like to have on Siri, and, you guessed it, Snape is on the list. Here's the link for the article: http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/236768/20111025/apple-siri-recognition-iphone-4s-darth-vader-gps-mary-poppins-severus-snape-jarvis.htm

Honestly, I'm surprised he's only number three. But the explanation made me laugh. Hard.

Snape Picture of the Week #36

I'm posting this picture simply for its epicness. This picture of Snape is just so BADASS, and there's really nothing more to say about it. Oh--and he's really buff in it, too. :3

Fake Snape #1

As you may have noticed, I've gotten through another seven weeks, and that means that I start something new for Saturdays. Well, I decided that I'm going to do 'fake Snapes,' in which I talk about versions of Snape besides the book and movie Snape. These Snapes could be from parodies, cosplays, etc.

This week, I'm doing AVPM/S Snape.

It's sort of the obvious choice, but whatever. For those of you that have been living under a rock, I'm referring to A Very Potter Musical (and Sequel), and if you haven't seen it, then none of this will make sense to you. AVPM is probably one of the biggest parts of the HP fandom, so you MUST watch it. Here's Act 1, Part 1 in case you haven't: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmwM_AKeMCk

Anyway, down to business.

In AVPM, Snape is portrayed by Joe Moses, who, in my opinion, is not very attractive without the Snape costume on. His voice is normally high-pitched, but he has an excellent (and hilarious) Snape impression. His accent when he's being Snape is also a bit exaggerated, but it's still awesome.

Joe Moses also has a thing called The Potion's Master's Corner, which he does on his Youtube channel. He's interviewed the other Starkids, and has done it all in his Snape costume, and hilariously.

This is the best picture I could find of him, and this all from episodes of TPMS:

The AVPM version of Snape is also ridiculously out of character sometimes, but it is a parody. Because of him, we now associate several quotes with Snape that we wouldn't otherwise:

"What the DEVIL is going on HERRRRRREEEEEEEE?"

"Sit down, you inarticulate bumble."

"I'll be in the drawing room... painting the stupid looks on your faces."
-----------

I could go on, but I don't feel like it. Anyway, even though it's a musical, Snape hardly gets any time to sing. It's disappointing, really. He obviously participates in the group songs like the end reprise of Going Back To Hogwarts and Days of Summer in AVPS, but the only song he really gets is Guys Like Potter. And it's a rather sad song, as funny as they try to make it.

What's also sad is that AVPS did the Snape's Worst Memory scene more accurately than the film adaptation of OotP did. -_-

Well, I have nothing else to say, except that I'm going to bed.

Fanfiction Friday #36

So... who here likes Snarry? :D Well, if you don't, then you might not want to read this fic, because it's Snarry.

It's called At the End of All Things, and I wouldn't be surprised if you've heard of it. I started reading it because I follow FYeahSnarry on Tumblr (the link to which is here), and they posted an excerpt from it. Normally, I only read Snarry for the smut, which this fic does have, but it's the first one I've read with actual romance, and I like it.

It's also rather sad. In it, Harry had cancer, and... well, I'm not going to give much away, but you can guess the rest. It's AU, Snape's slightly OOC, and there's some grammar mistakes, but it's an overall wonderful fic. Even if you don't like Snarry, you might want to read it so you get into it.

Beware, it's rated M, so there is sexual explicit content in it. But that shouldn't be a problem with anyone. ;D And it's also completed, so you won't have to wait for updates.

Fawkes swoops in and drops the Sorting Hat... And out of it, you pull out this link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2013350/1/At_the_end_of_all_things

Snape Quote of the Week #35

"Perhaps you already know it? You are a clever man, after all, Severus. You have been a good and faithful servant, and I regret what must happen."
  "My Lord--"
"The Elder Wand cannot serve me properly, Severus, because I am not its true master. The Elder Wand belongs to the wizard who killed its last owner. You killed Albus Dumbledore. While you live, Severus, the Elder Wand cannot be truly mine."
"My Lord!" Snape protested, raising his wand.
"It cannot be any other way," said Voldemort. "I must master the wand, Severus. Master the wand, and I master Potter at last."
And Voldemort swiped the air with the Elder Wand. It did nothing to Snape, who for a spit second seemed to think he had been reprieved: But then Voldemort's intention became clear. The snake's cage was rolling through the air, and before Snape could do anything more than yell, it had encased him, head and shoulders, and Voldemort spoke in Parseltongue.
  "Kill."
~Deathly Hallows, Ch. 32 "The Elder Wand"

The beginning of this quote is always where I start crying whenever I read DH. It sets up so much suspense and just gives me a horrible, heavy feeling... And I can't possibly imagine how Snape's feeling at the moment. He knows he's about to be killed without having been able to tell Potter everything, and he realizes that he's failed Lily. At that moment, he must have thought that his whole life had been a waste...

Okay, I can't bring myself to say anything else about it. It's just too effing sad.

Snape Video of the Week #34

Snape Kills Justin Beiber

I can't believe I JUST found out about this yesterday. This is just effing awesome. Especially because the footage fits together so damn perfectly.

Weekly Snape-ly Event #35

I actually have Snape news this week! Purely Snape. Well, and Harry Potter in general, but...whatever.

Anyway, I very recently participated in a contest held by the person that runs the page of Snape in FormerMiM (an RPG on Facebook, in case you didn't know). We had to create something, which could have been through any art medium, that represented what Harry Potter means to us. It was a pretty general topic.

All the submissions can be seen on this blog: http://www.fancifulmight.blogspot.com/ And I suggest you check them out. I won't tell you which one's mine, but I didn't win.

The winner was supposed to get a plushie/doll of the HP character of their choice. Obviously I would have chosen Snape, but I didn't win. ...I already have plenty of Snape things, though.

Snape Picture of the Week #35

I just love this picture so much... In case you don't know what it's supposed to be, it's all the Slytherins being really impressed with Snape when he's a first year and cursed the Marauder's very badly. Well, it seems like he only cursed Peter, but whatever. Though this event was never confirmed to have happened (as far as I know), it's pretty much assumed. And this was probably the first time that Snape ever felt like he belonged, like he fitted in. And as horribly as that turned out for him in the long run, I can't help but be glad that he didn't feel so alone (besides Lily) anymore.

Snape Poem #7

HOLY CRAP, IT'S THE LAST SNAPE POEM. Well... Good. Finding poems that relate to Snape was hard. I guess that's why I'm not a Hufflepuff. Anyway...

The Panther by Rainer Maria Rilke

His gaze, going past those bars, has got so misted
with tiredness, it can take in nothing more.
He feels as though a thousand bars existed,
and no more world beyond them than before.

Those supply powerful paddings, turning there
in tiniest of circles, well might be
the dance of forces round a centre where
some mighty will stands paralyticly.

Just now and then the pupils' noiseless shutter
is lifted. - Then an image will indart,
down through the limbs' intensive stillness flutter,
and end its being in the heart.

I think this fits the Death Eater side of Snape very well--partly because it's called 'The Panther,' and I like to think of him as a panther. But otherwise, it's almost exactly like his inner state, especially after a Death Eater meeting. He's still officially a Death Eater, and he reports to Dumbledore, but he's tired of all the secrecy and harm.

Fanfiction Friday #35

I decided not to do a Romance fic this week--I got interested in finding a story involving Snape's home life, and found a one-shot called Retribution, which involves Snape and Tobias, his father.

Seeing as it's a one-shot, there's not much I can tell you without giving away most of it, but you should be able to guess the plot by the title name. It's K+, so anyone can read it, though it is sort of intense. It's also beautifully written, so it really deserves a read. There's only 12 reviews so far, though there should be more...

If you'd just step inside the TARDIS--wait, wrong fandom... Whatever. It's bigger on the inside than the outside, and inside is this link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5368353/1/Retribution

Snape Quote of the Week #34

"If I might speak, Headmaster," said Snape from the shadows, and Harry's sense of foreboding increased; he was sure nothing Snape had to say was going to do him any good.
Potter and his friends many have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time," he said, a slight sneer curling his mouth as though he doubted it. "But we do have a set of suspicious circumstances here. Why was he in the upstairs corridor at all? Why wasn't he at the Halloween feast?"
Harry, Ron and Hermione all launched into an explanation about the deathday party. "...there were hundreds of ghosts, they'll tell you we were there--"
"But why not join the feast afterward?" said Snape, his black eyes glittering in the candlelight. "Why go up to that corridor?"
Ron and Hermione looked at Harry.
"Because--because--" Harry said, his heart thumping very fast; something told him it would sound very far-fetched if he told them he had been led there by a bodiless voice no one but he could hear, "because we were tired and wanted to go to bed," he said.
"Without any supper?" said Snape, a triumphant smile flickering across his gaunt face. "I didn't think ghosts provided food fit for living people at their parties."
"We weren't hungry," said Ron loudly as his stomach gave a huge rumble.
  Snape's nasty smile widened.
"I suggest, Headmaster, that Potter is not being entirely truthful," he said. "It might be a good idea if he were deprived of certain priveleges until he is ready to tell us the whole story. I personally feel he should be taken off the Gryffindor Quidditch team until he is ready to be honest."
"Really, Severus," said Professor McGonagall sharply, "I see no reason to stop the boy playing Quidditch. This cat wasn't hit over the head with a broomstick. There is no evidence at all that Potter has done anything wrong."
Dumbledore was giving Harry a searching look. His twinkling light-blue gaze made Harry feel as though he were being X-rayed.
Innocent until proven guilty, Severus," he said firmly.
Snape looked furious. So did Filch.
~Chamber of Secrets, Ch. 9 "The Writing on the Wall"

Since I've already finished rewriting Chamber of Secrets, I'll give you another snippet of the rewrite (which is in the form of a fanfiction) instead of an analysis. Because, in a way, it is an analysis.

And finally, Potter spoke—and loudly. “I never touched Mrs. Norris! And I don’t even know what a Squib is.”
“Rubbish!” snarled Filch. “He saw my Kwikspell letter!”
They wouldn’t get anywhere at this rate, but Severus knew exactly how to get to where they wanted—he wanted. “If I might speak, Headmaster…” All heads turned towards him, including the Lockharts on the wall. “Potter and his friends may have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said with a slight sneer, doubting it. “But we do have a set of suspicious circumstances here. Why was he in the upstairs corridor at all? Why wasn’t he at the Halloween feast?”
Thanks to Vesperra, he had the perfect way of proving that Potter wasn’t trustworthy. Severus already knew why they hadn’t been at the feast, but he wanted to see if their story would match up with his.
“Nearly Headless Nick invited me to his deathday party!” said Potter. “And I promised him I’d go, so—”
“We thought we’d go with him,” Granger said shrilly, “and we did—”
“It was in the dungeons,” Weasley added. “There were hundreds of ghosts, they’ll tell you we were there—”
“But why not join the feast afterward?” asked Severus, determined to find that they had done something wrong. “Why go up to that corridor?”
“Because—because—” Potter stammered, failing at his obvious attempt to appear innocent, “because we were tired and wanted to go to bed.”
Severus’s glittering eyes swept over Potter’s, and he didn’t even have to go into Legilimency mode to dip into the surface of his mind—he was obviously lying. But he didn’t delve further, because Dumbledore would surely see what he was doing, and Legilimency was forbidden on students. Still, a triumphant smirk flickered across Severus’s face.
“Without any supper?” he asked. “I didn’t think ghosts provided food fit for living people at their parties.”
Then just as a huge rumble sounded from the boy’s stomach, Weasley said, “We weren’t hungry.” This was too easy… Severus’s smile widened as he turned to Dumbledore.
“I suggest, Headmaster, that Potter is not being entirely truthful. It might be a good idea if he were deprived of certain privileges until he is ready to tell us the whole story. I personally feel he should be taken off the Gryffindor Quidditch team until he is ready to be honest.” This was turning out to be a better Halloween than he expected. That is, until—
“Really, Severus,” McGonagall said sharply. “I see no reason to stop the boy playing Quidditch. This cat wasn’t hit over the head with a broomstick. There is no evidence at all that Potter has done anything wrong.” Oh, but there was… Severus didn’t need to put any effort into using Legilimency to see that the boy what guilty of something!
“Innocent until proven guilty, Severus,” said Dumbledore after giving Potter a searching look. It seemed as though the old man was using Legilimency himself… but couldn’t he see? Couldn’t the greatest wizard of their age see that Potter was guilty?!
Filch seemed just as furious as Severus. “My cat has been Petrified! I want to see some punishment!”
“We will be able to cure her, Argus,” said Dumbledore patiently. “Professor Sprout recently managed to procure some Mandrakes. As soon as they have reached their full size, I will have a potion made that will revive Mrs. Norris.”
Then Lockhart stepped forward. “I’ll make it,” he said eagerly. “I must have done it a hundred times. I could whip up a Mandrake Restorative Draught in my sleep—”
“Excuse me,” Severus said icily, glaring daggers at Lockhart. “But I believe I am the Potions master at this school.” In the pause that ensued, Severus was fuming both for Potter’s lack of a punishment and Lockhart being a pompous arse, and everyone else stared awkwardly.
“You may go,” said Dumbledore to the trio. They left at once, and Severus calmed down a bit once he didn’t have to look at those brats anymore. The Headmaster then turned to Filch, who had an expression of mingled anger and grief. “If you wish, Argus, you may keep Mrs. Norris’s body in your own quarters until the Restorative Draught is ready, as she is your cat.”

Also, random thought--I like how Snape "speaks from the shadows." He's such a BAMF.

Snape Video of the Week #34

The Fate of Severus Snape - The Remus Lupins

The Remus Lupins is my favorite Wrock band right now. This, along with Snape, is one of their only songs about Snape. And for some reason, Snape-bashing songs are always really catchy.

Snape Picture of the Week #34

When I saw this a couple days ago, I automatically decided that I would post it this week. This is just too freaking awesome and hilarious. I love Snape as a hipster... He wore black before it was cool. But long hair was too mainstream.

And his glasses... HIS GLASSES.

Snape Poem #6

Alone by Edgar Allan Poe

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

I thought this poem was fitting because Snape is a very lonely person. As a small child, he was abused by his father and was completely alone until he met Lily. And even then, he was alone in the sense that he loved her and she didn't seem to love him back (although I believe she did). His passion for Potions and the Dark Arts set him apart from the others, and the latter eventually caused his seperation from Lily. In his teacher years, he spends most of his time in solitude--and as much as it seems that he prefers it that way, I think that, deep down, he'd like a friend.

The 'lightning in the sky' could be interpreted as Harry Potter, who he protects despite his hate for the boy, and the demon in his view would be the darkness inside him that he struggled to escape--but in its entirety, it's impossible to escape because of the Dark Mark branded onto his arm,

Fanfiction Friday #34

So, I found this Snape/Sinistra (and also Snape/Lily, sort of) fic that takes place around Snape's "death," called I Promise. In case you didn't know, I put quotes around that because he doesn't die in this.

To be honest, I really hate the author's interpretation of the Lily/Snape relationship, but I'm late in posting this as it is, so I wanted to get it over with.

It's two chapters that are of medium length, and even though I didn't like the Lily/Snape part, I still like the fic. Oh--and it's written in Snape's POV and in present tense.

Expecto Patronum!

Snape Quote of the Week #33

On Professor Sinistra's other side was the sallow-faced, hook-nosed, greasy-haired Potions Master, Snape--Harry's least favorite person at Hogwarts. Harry's loathing of Snape was only matched by Snape's hatred of him, a hatred which had, if possible, intensified last year, when Harry and helped Sirius escape right under Snape's overlarge nose--Snape and Sirius had been enemies since their own school days.
~Goblet of Fire, Ch. 12 "The Triwizard Tournament"

It's been a while since we had a short one... I doubt many people even remember this quote unless they've reread the books just as much as I have.

Every time I read this part, I get really mad at Harry. And if I'm alone while I read it, I actually talk to the page, and say "Shut up, Potter. He's my favorite person in Hogwarts!"

And when it first introduces Snape to the scene, as always, I do a little fangirl squee on the inside and sometimes kiss the page. If I'm alone. But, just OMR, Snape has some pretty dramatic intros. *Swoon*

Snape Video of the Week #33

It's Real For Us - The Prince's Tale

Lauren Fairweather (actually Maggiacomo now, because she got married to Matt of The Whomping Willows) released the music video for one of the other songs from her Prince's Tale album, so I thought I'd show you guys. There isn't really any Snape/Lily in the video, but the songs represents all of us Potterheads just as much as it did Snape and Lily, so I still like it.

Weekly Snape-ly Event #33

Once again, I couldn't find much news about either Snape or Alan Rickman, but this new video came out, as an update for Alan Rickman's upcoming Broadway Play, Seminar:

Oh God, that smile... He is so adorable.

Snape Picture of the Week #33

Sorry for all the heteroexual males that like my blog, but I just had to post this. There was more to the picture, but I didn't think it was appropriate to put on Blogger. And you know, part of what I like about this is that they didn't make Snape too muscular. Being a Potions Master, I don't think he'd been excessively muscley. And this is just the perfect balance between muscle and just being thin.

And it's pretty hot.

Snape Poem #5

Good and Evil by Bruce Alan Humphrey

The whisper turns into cannon shot in a crowd.

An enigmatic voice from the dark whispers in a naïve ear.
It speaks of riches and glory and power.
Riches to buy wealth.
Glory to buy rewards.
Power to buy friends.
But the whisper is a lie.

The whisper grows.
It passes from ear to ear turning it from the truth.
Eyes light up with hope for an easy life.
The whisper asks only to be listened to.
To be the leader for a life without strife.

Families sprout with the lie for a companion.
It lives with them, directing its biding.
Fathers and mothers teach the young.
The lie now has a foothold on the future.

Children listen to the whispers teachings, learning from them.
They teach their friends, who tell theirs, corrupting the innocent.
Race comes forth, perpetuating an idea.
Greed swells, filling the pockets with gold.
Hatred screams as it comes into its own.

The whisper turns into cannon shot in a crowd.
It races from ear to ear, instantly changing those who are good.
The crowd moves like one living mass.
Changing and morphing into evil.

Good speaks softly, but with unrelenting force.
It stands its ground against the evil, dreaming of harmony and the legacy of freedom.
Fathers and mothers teach the young.
Good speaks of peace, serenity, and the bravery of life.

Love and knowledge spring from that life.
Knowledge fathers dreams, dreams that build the future.
It pushes, driving the evil away from the naïve then cowers in the corner, where it waits once again.
The naïve are transformed and sent on the path of love once more.

I sincerely doubt that any of you already know if this poem, since it wasn't written by a famous poet, but I think it perfectly describes Snape's struggle with good and evil.

As a teenager, Snape was pushed (dragged into, more like) into the evil side, mostly because of Lily ending their friendship. All his life, Snape only wanted to belong, and the Death Eaters gave him a chance to do that, however stupid the decision was. I don't think he was ever truly evil, but that's what he was practically forced to choose.

Then, after realizing what he'd done, he wasn't pushed back to good, but actually chose it out of his own free will. He wanted to contribute to a future where there was no Voldemort; where the man that killed Lily was dead.
